Hello.  I am Claire.  I have over 17 years specialist experience in the field of career change consulting.  My satisfaction comes from assisting clients from all walks of life to gain clarity, insights, confidence and motivation to move towards growth, happiness and satisfaction within a career.  I am always fascinated by each person’s unique story and feel totally privileged to be told them.

I work from a strengths basis and my beliefs are enriched by the research and teachings of positive psychology.
Two statements are core to my work:

Utilise every last morsel of your God-given or gene-given talents – that is success.”
(Alan McDiarmid, NZ born Nobel Prize winner and scientist).

Achievement and personal satisfaction come from discovering the thing that you naturally
do well and that also ignites your passion – then you are ‘in your element
”.
(Ken Robinson, The Element).

My career has always been people oriented but it has followed the “planned happenstance” path – in other words, I did not start with the end in mind but welcomed new opportunities when I came across them.  It includes three years teaching, four years with the Alcoholic Liquor Advisory Council and ten years full time in increasingly senior human resources (HR) roles in large organisations.  For a further fifteen years, alongside my work in careers, I continued HR work part time (for banking, engineering, insurance, manufacturing, media, merchandising, pharmaceuticals & property companies) which gives me a unique
inside perspective on employers.

I have significant experience in:

  1. Working with individuals, from 14 to 72 years on career planning, change and management.
  2. Assisting organisations to support their staff through growth or restructures and redundancy.
  3. Re-engagement following life changing events.
  4. Career path research and job search.
  5. Work life balance planning.
  6. Supporting people to plan for fulfilling retirements.

I enjoy researching and developing career articles and resources.  In 2011 I launched a very practical resource called Future Focus that is starting to be used widely to help individuals seeking work life balance, re-engagement with the world following crisis, and work life re-balancing to create fulfilling retirements.
