FAQs re career coaching with Claire Simcock:

How many hours does it take?

This varies depending on need and constraints. Sessions can be 1, 1.5 or 2 hours but typically I see people for 2 -3 sessions of 1.5 hours each, which are around 1 to 3 weeks apart.

What can I expect as an outcome?

It depends on your question and need but most people become clearer about what interests them most strongly, what their strengths are and what drives them. You will have resources to take away and typically leave the second session with a summary sheet of learning, findings and action steps. You will have tools to support your research, questions to ask, leads to identify and follow, experiences to chase. In other words you will have a sound beginning to your career exploration for the next phase.

A third session (sometimes this is the only one-off session you want) is helpful to check in on research and search process, as well as to review CV, LinkedIn profile, applications and job search approach.

Fees?

Self-referring individuals $150 (includes GST) per hour. Most sessions are 1.5 hours, so $225 per session.

Organisational referrals - rates provided on request.

Will I do a personality profile?

I don't usually use personality profiles. I use career related tools to help you discover the industries and jobs of most interest to you. We also look at the skills of most interest to you, the natural talents you would like to use and what is important about where you work, how you work and what you do. Different aspects of your personality that have affected your work, or could be a factor in the future, will no doubt come up and we will learn from them but we don't use them to restrict options for the future. However, I have access to simplified personality profiling or I can refer you to someone more specialised if you would like that extra data.

How does this process compare to on line career tools?

There are many free on line tools that you may find helpful to discover your interests, skills and values. I am always keen to see those results but it is the objective discussion that we have around your choices that makes the difference between simplistic on line solutions that may not feel like a good match and sound choices where you are in control of your own future.
